Who we are:

A water delivery
system comprised of 1,200 kilometers of canal east of Calgary.

Member owned since 1944 by approximately 400 farmers.

Operated by a five member Board of Directors.

Annual water revenues of $2.2 million.
What we do:

Deliver water to 400 farmers, acreage owners and various
industrial customers.

Provide storm water removal systems for Calgary, Strathmore
and Chestermere.

Municipal water supply for towns of Strathmore, Rockyford,
Gleichen, Cluny and Standard

Employ approximately 30 people.
The History:
-
Built in the early 1900's as part of the Canadian Pacific
Railway's initiative to attract settlers to Alberta.
-
Taken over by a group of farmers in 1944 to prevent the C.P.R.
from closing the canals and abandoning the system.

Played an important role in settling areas east of Calgary
by providing water, training and land to farmers in the early 1900's.
-
C.P.R. operated a world famous demonstration farm on the
present site of the WID head office.
